Dr Anthony Koller is a Specialist Psychiatrist in Private Practice in Tokai, Cape Town.
He is a fully qualified Specialist Psychiatrist registered with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa. Dr Koller has a keen interest in Psychopharmacology, although he is well trained to deliver the major forms of psychotherapy, and offers these therapies in his practice.
When paired with ongoing and constructive therapy, medication can be a highly effective component of managing conditions such as depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. Dr Koller also successfully treats Anxiety, Depression and Eating Disorders with a combination of psychotherapy and medication.
Depending on what is required, Dr Koller may refer patients out to a network of top psychologists to deliver psychotherapy for a patient’s individual needs. He does however continue to provide psychiatric care for these patients during their individual psychotherapy.
He works in a collaborative manner with his patients at all times, trying to ensure the doctor and patient form a cohesive, trusting team within which treatment decisions are made together after careful consideration.
Dr Koller began his career at the University of Johannesburg, where he completed his Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) degree with distinction in 2001. He then moved on to complete his medical degree at The University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, achieving distinction again.
After completing his medical degree, Dr Koller started his internship at Groote Schuur Hospital. He completed this internship and qualified from the University of Witwatersrand with distinction as a medical doctor in 2009. He then completed his community service at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town in 2010.
In 2011, he registered to study Psychiatry at the University of Cape Town in order to specialise and graduated after 4 years, going on to pass the College of Medicine of South Africa Examinations in 2015 and graduating with Distinction in his Master of Medicine in Psychiatry (MMED) at the University of Cape Town in 2016. During this time he worked at most of the government owned Psychiatric and Medical hospitals in and around Cape Town.
Once he completed his Psychiatry fellowship, Dr Koller began working at Valkenberg Hospital as a Specialist Registrar from 2011 till 2014. He then spent 5 months as a Medical Officer at Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital in Mitchells Plain, before moving back to Valkenburg to serve as the Doctor in Charge of Female Acute Admissions.
He is registered with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa, the Board of Healthcare Funders of Southern Africa, as well as the South African Medical Association and the South African Society of Psychiatrists.
Dr Koller has also had several works published in medical journals, and has been featured on several media platforms, including ENCA News and radio shows.
